Since its founding in 1992 through its culmination in 2008, the CEO Foundation provided options for education in Bexar County. Its significance reverberated across the State of Texas and across the nation as well, giving communities examples of innovative ways to support School Choice in Texas as well as across the nation.
Although the CEO Foundation has concluded its work, an area in which we must continue to be vigilant is that of injustice and inequality in the area of education. Where children live and how much income their families generate for a community should not penalize or reward a child.
I have been blessed to be part of the pioneering work of the CEO Foundation and the vision of its founders, Dr. James Leininger, Gen. Robert McDermott, and Mr. Larry Walker. For sixteen years, it has been challenged, criticized and imitated. Its greatest acheivement has been the raising of awareness that all families deserve a voice in the education of their children. The program has been an incentive for educational reform for children without regard to socioeconomic status.
